“ It's been so cold here that I started craving claypot rice. We came over and got a pot of steaming hot claypot rice with spareribs and various preserved meats. The rice on the bottom was slightly crispy but not burnt--perfect. My hubby doesn't like the preserved meats so he opted for the steamed spareribs rice instead and this is steamed inside a piece of lotus leaf. A very good option and I may follow next time. This meal came with two very hot (paper) bowls of house soup filled with pieces of winter melons and carrots. Service was quick and polite. Located on Clement and 11th Ave. ”
“ Loved the clay pot rice here. (I'm Chinese Cantonese/ Taishanese). There was plenty of meat and the sauce was great when mixed into the rice. Yes there were crunchy bits. Would recommend adding the spicy oil into it (it's not very spicy but adds more flavor). The pork knuckles were also well flavored but would have preferred it to have been cooked longer for the extra softness. ”
“ Amazing authentic clay pot! It's the best I've had outside of China. The price is on the higher end compared to other restaurants in the city but the portion is big and quality is unbeatable. ”
“ I had a friend visiting from out of town and we were about to try a different place nearby, but the wait was going to be too long and we were too hungry! Luckily, this clay pot spot happened to be nearby and we have been wanting to try it. Best of all, there was no wait on a Saturday night compared to the rest of the spots nearby. Living in San Mateo, it's been difficult to find good cantonese clay pot spots. As the Cantonese population keeps dwindling in norcal and the culture is disappearing (in general), I'm really glad this spot is here. The flavors were comforting to us. The waiter was patient with our indecisiveness. They offered us some clear Cantonese soup after we ordered. It felt like just what we needed since we have not drank Cantonese soup in such a long time. Our orders of the lamb stew, yellow eel rice, and spare ribs rice clay pots were delicious! It was nice that they actually had the crispy rice at the bottom. We also ordered a stir fried pea sprout dish as our vegetable. For the folks that like their clay pot rice to be saltier, they offer a jalepeno soy sauce concoction on the table. I felt like it complemented the dishes quite well. ”
“ Clay pot options are lacking in Los Angeles. So whenever I travel to the Bay Area, I try to look for and eat at restaurants that specialize in clay pots. The Claypot House has an extensive menu of exactly that, with some other equally as delicious choices. This restaurant has more clay pot dishes than other restaurants I've been to. It was difficult for me to choose. Luckily, I was dining with two friends so we were able to order several items to share. We ordered three clay pots- the Chinese sausage with duck, the chicken with Chinese sausage, and the chicken with mushroom. All were greatly flavored. And of course, the crispy rice was perfectly crunchy and textured. We also ordered a salty fish with pork patty. We were surprised when the dish came out with fresh white fish as opposed to the dehydrated salty fish. A little different than what I'm used to but still delicious. They seasoned the fish with salt and ginger. Lastly, we ordered an ong choy because we felt we needed to complete the meal with vegetables. Complimentary soup was served with our meals. Portions were very generous. The clay plots were larger than I've seen at other restaurants. The restaurant is very homey. When we walked in, we were greeted by a nice man who told us to sit at any open table. The restaurant was about half full at the beginning hours of dinner and there was a nice stream of customers while we were dining. The service was a little slow as more diners came in; I think there was only one person cooking all the dishes and they were making one clay pot at a time. But we were patient because we had lots to nibble on. If you experience slow service, please be understanding as this is a small business. I will definitely come back to try the other options soon! ”
